Fashion Flower News How we care for nature

How we care for nature and our employees

We rely on the natural resources available in the growing regions of Ecuador. The rich soil that comes from thousands of years of volcanic activity. The power of the sun, which ensures growth 12 hours a day all year round. And finally, water, a natural resource that is available in sufficient quantities.

Pesticide residues are a very important issue in agricultural cultivation. Residues are reduced to a minimum and we also prohibit the use of pesticides with particularly critical active ingredients in agricultural production, post-harvest treatment, processing, storage and transportation.

The use of pesticides in agricultural production, post-harvest treatment, processing, storage and transportation of flowers must comply with the principle of “as little as possible, as much as necessary”. It is an illusion that we can do completely without, but we rely on natural substances such as essential oils and fungi, which naturally regulate the pH value of the soil and make the plants resistant.

Especially when using pesticides, the negative impact on the environment must be minimized and occupational health and safety measures must be implemented.

The term “pesticides” covers all synthetic chemical and biological pesticides. These include insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. Plant protection products contain active ingredients and other components. An active ingredient is the component of a pesticide that is responsible for its effect.

The legal maximum levels for residues of pesticide active ingredients applicable in Switzerland must be complied with at all times.

We maintain a list of over 200 active substances that must not be used in the agricultural production, post-harvest treatment, processing, storage and transportation of flowers and plants.

The negative list of banned pesticide ingredients was drawn up primarily on the basis of the globally recognized FAO/WHO guidelines for highly hazardous pesticides (HHP).

Each finca must apply this list in its operations and provide us with written proof that it is adhered to at all times.

These aspects are very important to us and we do everything we can to ensure that the environment, our employees in Ecuador and the florists can work safely.
